A step further towards digitalization. Each stamp will be unique and traceable by the end user!

"Postal operators are relentlessly pursuing their digital strategy", said Jack Hamande

Deutsche Post is introducing a new generation of stamps. The first stamp with a so-called "matrix code" next to the actual stamp motif will appear. From 2022 onwards, all stamps will have a matrix code.

The first stamp with a so-called "matrix" code will appear next to the actual stamp pattern. With the matrix code, users will be able to see in the Post & DHL application when their letter has been processed at the postal center in the region of departure and when it has arrived in the region of destination".

The codes, which are similar to QR codes, will sit alongside the traditional images in what will be "a new generation of stamps", according to the company.

The first stamps featuring the codes will be rolled out from February, with more to follow later in the year.

By 2022, they will be featured on all German stamps.

However, the codes do not allow for full parcel-style tracking and they will not tell customers whether a letter has actually been delivered.
